“Grow and provide oxygen for man. Man needs oxygen and breathes out carbon dioxide, which is good for trees.”
These were the words of Dr. Simeon Owizz Koroma during a tree-planting activity at the West African Collegiate Methodist School (WACMS) on Monday, 1st June 2026.
The activity was organized by Media Initiatives for Climate Change and the Environment (MICCE).

Dr. Owizz Koroma, the Government Chief Pathologist and an alumnus of the Collegiate School, emphasized while planting trees on the school compound that tree planting and human life form a cycle of growth, as both provide what the other needs—oxygen from trees for humans to breathe in and carbon dioxide from humans for trees to grow well.
Commencing the activity, the Director of Media Initiatives for Climate Change and the Environment (MICCE), Martha Kargbo, stated that tree planting is one of the organization’s key activities to commemorate this year’s World Environment Day on 5th June 2026. She further noted that trees play a vital role in keeping the environment safe and healthy.
Joining the Director of MICCE, Martha Kargbo, and Dr. Owizz Koroma in the exercise were the Senior Principal, Dr. Koroma, the Junior Principal of the school, Mrs. Miranda Cole, and several pupils, who participated in planting the trees within the school compound.
