The United States Embassy in Freetown has dismissed reports suggesting that it is set to close, assuring the public that its operations continue as normal. In an official statement, the U.S. Embassy clarified that no decision has been made to close either the Embassy in Freetown or any U.S. Consulate, contrary to reports circulating on social media platforms.
The Embassy further explained that the U.S. Department of State routinely evaluates its overseas operations to ensure that American diplomatic missions are effectively advancing U.S. foreign policy priorities and serving the public effectively.
The Embassy also reassured visa applicants and other members of the public that any future changes affecting visa applications, interview procedures, or consular services would be communicated through official channels.
According to the proposed list of embassies that will be closed worldwide, Sierra Leone is not part of these listed countries. About 8 African countries make the list as follows: Eritrea, The Gambia, Lesotho, Republic of Congo, Central Africa Republic, Southern Sudan, Cameroon, and South Africa.
The news on various social media platforms that the U.S. Embassy in Freetown is among the embassy closure list is untrue, a well calculated ploy by opposition propagandists to damage the international image of the country and the Bio administration
