Minister of Youth Affairs, Ibrahim Sannoh, on Monday visited the Water Quay Bolloré Terminal to inspect fifty electric vehicles procured for the proposed “Youth in Commercial Transportation” initiative.

The project, which is expected to introduce a modern ride-hailing transportation scheme similar to Uber services, forms part of government’s broader strategy to economically empower young people through innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development.
During the inspection tour, Minister Sannoh described the initiative as a transformative intervention designed to create meaningful employment opportunities for youths while simultaneously contributing to environmentally friendly transportation systems in Sierra Leone.

“This initiative is about creating opportunities for young people to become economically self-reliant,” the Minister stated. “Government remains committed to ensuring that young people are not left behind in national development. These vehicles represent hope, innovation, and a future of possibilities for our youths.”
The proposed transportation scheme is expected to provide direct and indirect jobs for hundreds of young people, particularly in urban communities where unemployment among youths remains a major concern. Beneficiaries are anticipated to receive structured support and engagement under the commercial transportation program.
Observers have described the initiative as one of the most ambitious youth-centered transportation empowerment projects in recent times, especially as it introduces electric vehicles, a move seen as aligning Sierra Leone with global efforts towards cleaner and more sustainable mobility solutions.
The inspection further highlights the Ministry of Youth Affairs’ growing focus on practical empowerment programs aimed at positioning young people as active contributors to economic growth and national transformation.
