Sierra Leonean comedian Kindo Armani has said his recent comments at a public event were “only a joke” after a viral clip led to mixed reactions.
The comedian made the remarks while performing in the presence of President Julius Maada Bio and other dignitaries.
In the clip, he joked that the President should make sure the SLPP does not leave power. He also said comedians like him without visas could suffer if that happens.
He also joked about Sierra Leonean military officers arrested in Guinea, saying they now only understand the local language.
Reacting to the backlash, Kindo Armani said the video was edited and shared out of context.
He stressed that no single person can decide election results, noting that voters make that decision.
According to him, his comedy is meant to entertain, educate, and bring people together, not to push political messages.
He added that if jokes are taken too seriously, comedy will lose its meaning.
