The Government of Sierra Leone (GoSL) is reported to have secured a major loan from the United States International Development Finance Corporation (US DFC) to support the ongoing NantEnergy Power Project at Kissy Dockyard in East End Freetown.
This move has been described by many concerned citizens as a major step towards solving the country’s electricity challenges under the shrewd leadership of His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio.
According to a confirmed report, the project, valued at over US$400 million, is Sierra Leone’s first large independent power initiative. When completed, it is expected to generate more than 100 mega watts of electricity, which will significantly improve the country’s energy supply.
A confirmed report also states that in the coming months, the installation of the first turbine from Siemens will begin. This important step will move the project closer to full operation.
The report added that once the installation is completed, the project is expected to greatly reduce power outages nationwide, especially in the capital, Freetown.
Many well-meaning Siwrra Leoneans believe and hope that this initiative will finally bring stable electricity and put an end to frequent blackouts.
