The Sierra Leone security sector on Wednesday, 20th May 2026, held a press conference at the Sierra Leone Police Headquarters in Kingtom, Freetown, to clarify issues surrounding the recent alleged cocaine seizure by Spanish authorities.
Addressing journalists during the briefing, the spokesperson for the Sierra Leone Police, ACP Brima Kamara, recalled that following the interception of the vessel in Spain, the security sector had earlier issued a statement announcing the commencement of preliminary investigations and inter-agency assessments into the matter.

He explained that the investigations were aimed at establishing the facts regarding the vessel, its voyage history, and port movements.
According to him, initial findings revealed that the vessel involved was registered in the Comoros Islands.
ACP Kamara further disclosed that a special committee had been constituted to conduct a comprehensive investigation so that the public would be fully informed about the truth surrounding the matter.

He added, however, that ongoing investigations have so far ruled out the possibility that Sierra Leonean waters were used by transnational organised criminal networks, while noting that the matter remains under active investigation.
