The Director General of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT), Mohamed Fuaad Daboh, hosted a high-level working lunch on Thursday, 16th April 2026, for key stakeholders in the Moyamba District including but not limited to the Paramount Chief, Parliamentarians, District Authorities, Chiefdom Authorities, Employers, Employees, Pensioners and the General Public.
During his keynote address, the Director General highlighted the District Office’s profound relevance, noting that the facility was a testament to the Trust’s commitment to decentralisation, thereby ensuring that social security services are accessible, efficient, and delivered to the doorstep of the people of Moyamba.
Mr Daboh emphasised that the office would significantly reduce the burden on pensioners and contributors who previously had to travel long distances to access NASSIT services and, in some cases, even lost their lives.
As a central theme of his speech, the Director General emphasised that there was an urgent need for employers to comply with the NASSIT Act No. 5 of 2001, and reminded the gathering that “social security is a legal right for every worker and an obligation for every employer in Sierra Leone”.
He encouraged local authorities to remind employers of their obligation to the Trust and expressed a strong desire to expand social protection to the informal sector.
Mr Daboh went on to say that for the scheme to be truly national, it must embrace traders, farmers, and artisans, thereby ensuring that they, too, had a safety net for their retirement years.
The Director General paid tribute to the sons and daughters of Moyamba and commended Honourable Veronica Kadie Sesay for her tireless efforts in securing the land that now hosts the new office. He acknowledged that their influence and advocacy were the driving force behind the decision to prioritise the construction of the first NASSIT District office in Moyamba, describing the project as a victory for community-led development.
Earlier, the Paramount Chief of Kaiyamba Chiefdom welcomed the Director General and his delegation with deep appreciation and expressed profound gratitude to NASSIT for investing in the district, stating that this was a new era of administration. He applauded the efficient services of the NASSIT staff assigned to the District and assured the Director General of his continued support to the team.
The working lunch concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Honourable Veronica Kadie Sesay, who praised the Director General for his vision and commended the stakeholders for their commitment to the district’s progress, reaffirming that the new office would stand as a symbol of hope for Moyamba’s workers.
The event, which served as a strategic platform to discuss the Trust’s expanding footprint and the shared responsibility for protecting the welfare of the workforce, was held at the NASSIT District office in Moyamba.
