The Government of His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio has just approved and authorised the Attorney General and Minister of Justice to lay in Parliament a proposed bill that will allow dual citizens to be qualified to be elected as Members of Parliament.
This is another promise made by President Bio in his election manifesto. That was his stated position and public declaration, which he has delivered.
Reacting to the President’s statement on dual citizenship, Abdul Othman Bah said: “This is not good for us. Dual means your allegiance is not full. Some will depend on this status to misrule and escape liability when called to account.”
Another citizen, Ibrahim Thorlu-Bangura, said: “I support the bill 100% because it enhances productive contributions to development. My take is that the bill should have a caveat that should limit participation if you have not contributed to both NASSIT and PAYE for a minimum of two years.”
“Kudos, Mr. President. Thank you ‘Talk en Do’ for delivering on your promise,” Abubakarr Kamara said. “Though APC MPs have boycotted Parliament, there are two of them who didn’t boycott at all and are participating fully in Parliament. So, the bill shall be passed in Parliament with their support for the future benefits of Sierra Leoneans with dual citizenship.”
