There will be a nationwide compliance verification exercise undertaken by a Task Force Inspection to ensure adherence to labour regulations relating to work permits.
This development comes following a notice letter issued by the Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security two weeks ago regarding foreign workers to comply with the laid down work permit rules.
According to a news release by the Ministry, “This exercise is a continuation of of the Government’s ongoing enforcement of mandatory registration requirements for foreign nationals and ensuring compliance with the labour laws of Sierra Leone, particularly the Work Permit Act, 2023.”
It added that the “task force will conduct targeted and unannounced inspections at workplaces, business premises, institutions, project sites, and other locations where foreign nationals may be engaged in work or business to ascertain their compliance to the law.
The Ministry strongly advised employers and foreign nationals to ensure that all relevant labour documents are valid, updated, and readily available for inspection at all times, stressing that “failure to comply with these requirements will result in enforcement actions in accordance with the laws of Sierra Leone, including penalties and closure of business premises.
