The Minister of Finance, Karefa Ansumana Francis Kargbo, has asserted that he would not be intimidated by someone to comply with unnecessary demands or stay away from something that is integral to the day-to-day administration of his Ministry.
According to the Finance Minister, he is well focused on his promises he made to the people of Sierra Leone when he assumed office in September, noting that he is trying to put a proper system in place in the interests of the people.
Karefa Kargbo reiterated that he is here to work in the interests of the people and that he is always guided by his pledges to the people when he assumed office.
He said they are doing some serious reforms for all sectors to ensure that whenever money is available, every sector will benefit.
Karefa Kargbo strictly warned Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to desist from bypassing the legitimate system and using political connections to pressure, threaten, or bully someone to comply with what is not right.
He called on government officials, contractors, and other partners in development to support His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio to deliver on his promises to Sierra Leoneans.
It could be recalled that when he assumed office in September 2026, the Finance Minister pledged to strengthen fiscal performance, enhance accountability, and accelerate the delivery of government’s promises.
Karefa Kargbo promised a leadership style anchored on teamwork, open communication, and close working relationships with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure targets are met within timelines.
He spoke about strengthening fiscal space and cash-flow through designated expanding fiscal space, managing the fiscal deficit, and improving cash-flow management as top priorities.
Domestic revenue mobilisation; tax exemptions and customs reforms; and review of legislative Acts are also part of the Finance Minister’s pledges to Sierra Leoneans.
For the 2027-2029 spending focus, Karefa Kargbo outlined that the upcoming medium-term budget plan will prioritise economic growth, job creation, infrastructure, digital transformation, and better public services.
He also promised a more vigorous, evidence-based framework for managing public resources and lessening the economic burden on the people<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
