He said the institution continues to provide relatively affordable services despite facing financial difficulties since the separation of postal and telecommunications services, which significantly affected its revenue base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He further disclosed that SALPOST operates largely on revenue generated from its own activities, including the payment of staff salaries and other operational expenses, with government support provided occasionally during exceptional circumstances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Addressing the institution\u2019s plans for the future, Mr. Katta revealed that the proposed Postal Bill is at its final drafting stage with the Law Officers\u2019 Department. He expressed optimism that the bill would be tabled before Parliament before the end of the year, noting that its enactment would redefine SALPOST\u2019s responsibilities, strengthen its legal framework, and provide clearer direction for its future operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"472\" src=\"https:\/\/thesatellitenewspapersl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/C-3-1024x472.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2100\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thesatellitenewspapersl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/C-3-1024x472.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/thesatellitenewspapersl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/C-3-300x138.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thesatellitenewspapersl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/C-3-768x354.jpg 768w, https:\/\/thesatellitenewspapersl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/C-3.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also announced plans to introduce Citizen Postal Service Centres to enable members of the public to access multiple government services at a single location. According to him, the initiative has received policy level endorsement, with pilot centers expected to be established at SALPOST\u2019s headquarters in Freetown and its office in Kenema.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, SALPOST ICT and Quality of Service Manager Alwynne Faulkner described the commissioning as an important milestone in the institution\u2019s efforts to improve mail transportation. She explained that the 15 motorbikes and two mail vehicles were acquired through a mail conveyance project supported by the Quality of Service Fund, to which postal institutions contribute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ms. Faulkner noted that SALPOST had previously faced significant transportation challenges, including reliance on external transport arrangements for moving mail from its depot to the airport. She said the successful approval and implementation of the project would enable the institution to take greater control of its mail transportation operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She added that the newly commissioned vehicles and motorbikes would be distributed across the country to improve mail delivery and reduce delays. The project aims to ensure that mail destined for locations such as Makeni can be forwarded within 24 hours, improving on previous delivery timelines that could extend to two days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The commissioning of the vehicles and motorbikes highlights SALPOST\u2019s commitment to improving operational efficiency, expanding its service reach, and adapting to changing trends in the global postal industry, where traditional letter mail is declining while parcel delivery continues to grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As Sierra Leone joins the rest of the world to commemorate World Post Day, the initiative represents a practical investment in strengthening the country\u2019s postal infrastructure and improving the quality and reliability of
